No more loneliness for the Like button. Facebook, the social media behemoth, has added six companions to the ubiquitous thumbs up. Called Reactions, the six emojis are supposed to make it easier for Facebook's users to express their feelings about a post without having to go through the horrible process of 'liking' a sad post.

The new emojis are like upgraded stickers, with the added exposure of showing up under every single Facebook post in the world. To start off with, the company is only testing out Reactions in Ireland and Spain, but the idea is to expand to the rest of the world as soon as possible.

News of the buttons came with the suggestion that this would be a single addition. It was widely reported that a 'dislike' button might be coming, only tempered by some pushback from Facebook found Mark Zuckerberg insisting instead that this would be a button to show empathy, not dislike.

"A like might not be the best way to express yourself," Zuckerberg said. "Not every moment is a good moment, and sometimes you just want a way to express empathy."

The concern about a straightforward dislike button was that it would be used the way Reddit uses downvotes, as a way of expressing displeasure about the story itself and, often enough, turning into a way of attacking users through sustained downvoting campaigns.

No such button has been added, but there is still one Reaction that would work very well for the social media trolls of our world. Soon enough, when someone praises the Nehru-Gandhi family on Facebook or writes out a post defending Narendra Modi, you'll be free to indicate how angry you are. Expect a lot of reddened faces.
